Ranking & Structure
Rankings
The World Cooperative Monitor's "Top 300" ranks cooperative groups by consolidated turnover, and is one of the most widely used public rankings for observing the scale of the world's large cooperative economies. The table below is a simplified sample for illustration; for the complete list and footnotes, refer to the official WCM website and the current year's report.
- Organisation type: labels such as Producer, Consumer-User and Mutual follow the WCM classification and should not be conflated with legal-form categories under company law, such as the joint-stock company.
- Turnover currency: reports are typically converted into nominal US-dollar values; check that year's methodology notes on exchange rates before comparing across years.
- Difference from the GDP ranking: the Turnover/GDP sub-ranking emphasises relative macroeconomic scale, and can differ significantly from the ranking by absolute turnover.
Regional distribution
Ranking coverage
The Top 300 reflects highly disclosed, large-scale entities, and is not equivalent to the overall distribution of the cooperative population. It is best read alongside national registry statistics.
