The Confederação Nacional das Cooperativas Odontológicas (UNIODONTO, the National Confederation of Dental Cooperatives) has its system's origins in the first dental cooperative founded in Santos on 18 September 1972; in March 1993 the state-level units were consolidated under the name "Uniodonto do Brasil — National Confederation of Dental Cooperatives," headquartered in São Paulo. It is composed of dental cooperatives distributed throughout Brazil, aiming to eliminate intermediaries and provide accessible dental care, and is one of Brazil's — and the world's — leading dental cooperative networks.
