The Norinchukin Bank was established by the Japanese government in December 1923, headquartered in Tokyo, as the central cooperative financial institution serving Japan's agricultural, forestry and fisheries cooperative system. Its members include agricultural cooperatives (JA), fisheries cooperatives (JF), forest owners' cooperatives (JForest) and other cooperative organisations, and according to its data it serves thousands of such cooperatives. Norinchukin is one of Japan's largest institutional investors, with substantial assets and an investment portfolio, and maintains overseas branches in New York, London, Singapore and elsewhere; it is a member of the International Cooperative Alliance.
