Profile

Riksbyggen is one of Sweden's two major housing cooperative organisations, founded in 1940 by construction-industry trade unions to address the housing shortage and unemployment among construction workers at the time. It engages in housing development, construction and property management, jointly owned by construction-industry trade unions, housing cooperatives and other national cooperative organisations. According to its website, Riksbyggen manages about 170,000 apartments across thousands of housing cooperatives, with operations spanning several hundred locations nationwide. It is a member of the International Co-operative Alliance and Cooperative Housing International (CHI).
