The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives (MCIC, now the Ministry of Tourism, Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives) is Kiribati's government department responsible for cooperatives, headquartered in South Tarawa. The ministry's Cooperatives and Credit Union Unit is responsible for the registration, development and supervision of cooperatives and credit unions; the Registrar of Cooperatives manages annual audits and annual general meetings, among other matters, and the ministry also handles business registration, investment promotion, industrial development and consumer protection. It is a member of ICA's Asia-Pacific region.
