Malta Co-operative Federation (MCF)

The Malta Co-operative Federation (MCF) is a representative organisation dedicated to assisting, advancing, expanding and uniting cooperatives, composed of cross-sectoral, newer-generation cooperative enterprises, and works to promote, strengthen and refine the cooperative model in Malta. The Maltese cooperative movement dates back to 1947, initially dominated by agricultural and fishing enterprises; there are now more than 70 cooperatives nationwide with about 5,000-plus members. MCF's board members are nominated by member cooperatives and elected on a rotating basis, covering maritime, transport, cultural, sporting and knowledge-service fields, and it participates in international cooperation through bodies such as European cooperative organisations.
