Profile
La Fundación Espriu was founded in 1989 and is headquartered in Spain. A non-profit organisation, it upholds the vision of Dr Josep Espriu of "cooperative-based healthcare management," dedicated to promoting, researching and disseminating cooperative healthcare management. The foundation brings together Asisa (a health-insurance cooperative founded by Espriu in 1966), Lavinia (a physicians' cooperative), SCIAS (a users' cooperative that operates a hospital in Barcelona) and Autogestió Sanitària, among other bodies, building a cooperative healthcare system involving both doctors and patients. It ranks among the world's top 300 cooperatives by turnover in the World Cooperative Monitor and is a member of the International Co-operative Alliance.
