The Cyprus Turkish Co-operative Central Bank Ltd. (KoopBank) is the central banking institution of the Turkish Cypriot cooperative movement in Northern Cyprus, established in 1959 by 196 Turkish Cypriot cooperatives, with roots tracing back to the Cyprus Co-operative Central Bank founded in 1937 (which split into Turkish and Greek Cypriot branches after Cyprus's independence in 1959). KoopBank provides credit and financial services to member cooperatives and has also engaged in industry, commerce and services; it is one of the leading financial institutions in Northern Cyprus by asset scale, holding a substantial share of the local banking sector.
