INSTITUTO NACIONAL DE FOMENTO COOPERATIVO (INFOCOOP)

The Instituto Nacional de Fomento Cooperativo (INFOCOOP), established under Law No. 4179 of 1973, is Costa Rica's public institution responsible for promoting cooperative development, with independent legal personality and administrative and functional autonomy. Its responsibilities span the promotion, financing, technical assistance, education and training, and supervision of cooperatives, and it disburses part of its funding to CONACOOP and CENECOOP as required by law. As the cooperative-sector regulatory authority, it participates in ICA Americas as an associate member.
