Profile

The Instituto Nacional del Cooperativismo (INACOOP), established under Article 186 of the 2008 General Cooperatives Law (Law No. 18.407), is a non-state public-law body in Uruguay. It is responsible for proposing, advising on and implementing national cooperative policy, promoting the economic, social and cultural development of the cooperative sector, and supporting cooperative projects through the Promotion and Education Fund (FOMCOOP) and the Special Revolving Fund (FRECOOP), with related resources jointly raised by the state and cooperatives. As an associate member of ICA Americas, INACOOP participates in its capacity as the government's cooperative regulatory body.
