International Committee for the Promotion of Chinese Industrial Cooperatives (ICCIC)

The International Committee for the Promotion of Chinese Industrial Cooperatives (ICCIC, known as 'Gung Ho International') originated in the Chinese Industrial Cooperative Movement ('Gung Ho') during the War of Resistance against Japan. The Chinese Industrial Cooperatives Association was founded in Wuhan in 1938, and the International Committee was established in Hong Kong in 1939 to raise funds abroad and secure international assistance in support of industrial production in the rear areas; Rewi Alley, Edgar Snow, Soong Ching-ling and other Chinese and foreign figures were key promoters. The Committee ceased activity in 1952 and was revived in Beijing in 1987; it is now a support organisation dedicated to promoting the cooperative cause, international exchange and poverty-alleviation training, and is a member of the International Cooperative Alliance.
