Crédit Mutuel

Crédit Mutuel is a major French mutual cooperative banking group whose history dates back to 1882, when the first local cooperative bank inspired by the Raiffeisen model was founded in Alsace. The group has a cooperative structure comprising about 2,000 local mutual credit banks, organised into 18 regional federations plus a national agricultural federation, with its central body, the Confédération Nationale du Crédit Mutuel (CNCM), based in Paris. The group is wholly owned by its roughly 9 million members. According to the World Cooperative Monitor 2025 report (2023 data), its turnover was about US$69.15 billion, ranking 5th among the world's cooperatives by turnover. It is a member of the International Co-operative Alliance and European cooperative organisations.
