Profile
Cooperativa de Ahorro y Crédito ELGA Ltda. is a Honduran savings and credit cooperative founded in July 1965 by 13 local employees of the United States Embassy in Honduras and USAID, in Tegucigalpa, its name deriving from "Empleados Locales del Gobierno Americano" (Local Employees of the American Government). Originally a closed cooperative serving only staff of those institutions, it converted to an open, public-facing cooperative in 1988, retaining its established name as a proper noun. The cooperative provides savings and credit services and joined the International Co-operative Alliance in 2023, and is a member of ICA Americas.
