Co-operatives UK

Co-operatives UK is the national membership organisation and sectoral federation for all types of cooperative enterprises in the United Kingdom, democratically owned and controlled by its member cooperatives, headquartered at Holyoake House in Manchester. Its origins trace back to the first National Co-operative Congress in 1869 and the Central Co-operative Board (later the Co-operative Union) established the following year, and it took its current form in 2001 through a merger with the Industrial Common Ownership Movement (ICOM). Co-operatives UK represents more than a thousand cooperative members spanning retail, agriculture, worker cooperatives, credit unions and other sectors, serving as the core representative body of the British cooperative movement, and participates in the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA) and European cooperative organisations.
