The Central Cooperative Union (Централен кооперативен съюз, CCU) is Bulgaria's national apex organisation for the cooperative movement, headquartered in Sofia. Formally registered in 1947, it carries on more than 130 years of Bulgarian cooperative tradition, with consumer cooperatives at its core and activities extending into cooperative industry, tourism and agriculture. The union unites and represents dozens of regional cooperative unions, hundreds of cooperatives and more than 100,000 members, making it a major force in Bulgaria's social solidarity economy; it participates as a member in international bodies including the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA) and Consumer Co-operatives Worldwide (CCW).

Materials compiled from Sino-foreign exchange visits indicate that Bulgaria's cooperative system is centred on the Central Cooperative Union as a key hub; business cases covered in the materials include joint cooperative procurement and logistics centres, cooperative shopping malls, cooperative supermarkets and a cooperative bottled mineral water company. The materials indicate that Bulgarian cooperatives operate around 800 chain supermarkets and have sought to expand the influence of the consumer cooperative network through unified procurement, distribution and cross-border trade. As cooperative organisations of an EU member state, Bulgarian cooperatives have also pursued joint procurement and logistics cooperation with cooperatives in Hungary, Estonia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, giving Bulgaria potential to link its market with the wider Eastern European common market.
