Bharatiya Beej Sahakari Samiti Limited (BBSSL)

Bharatiya Beej Sahakari Samiti Limited (BBSSL, the Indian Seed Cooperative) was established in January 2023 under India's Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002, driven by the Ministry of Cooperation, with its headquarters in New Delhi; it was co-founded by five institutions — IFFCO, KRIBHCO, NAFED, the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and NCDC. Its purpose is to produce, test, certify, process, store and brand-market quality seed through a cooperative network, and to conserve and promote indigenous germplasm resources, covering breeder, foundation and certified seed. According to its official information, both the number of member cooperative institutions and the states covered have expanded rapidly in the years since its founding, making it an important platform in India's cooperative seed sector.
